On Friday, August 22, a new round of phishing scam messages targeted the University of Arkansas email accounts. These scams claimed to originate from University Police and indicated that the recipient's account would be closed due to a system error. Further, the message asked users to reply with their email address and password.
University IT Services and University Police are advising the University campus to ignore this fraudulent message. The University administration will NEVER send a notice to our email clients requesting that you send us your password. Please protect your account password just as you would your banking account numbers or any other form of private or sensitive information.
Users are urged to ignore the message or any similar fraudulent message. However, users that have replied to the message should immediately change their password using PASSweb to prevent unauthorized access to their account.
Again, the University WILL NOT send messages requesting user account passwords or other personal information to be communicated via email. For questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the UITS Help Desk at 575-2905, or email the IT Security Group at security @ uark.edu.
